We are seeking a bioinformatics engineer to support the curation of biomedical data resources related to several National Institute on Aging (NIA) programs. In this role you will contribute to the curation and distribution of clinical, genomic, and other biomedical data from funded grants. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about collaborative and reproducible research, have experience with data wrangling, and sufficient knowledge of biomolecular research to support these NIA data coordination efforts.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Work within a team of data managers and data wranglers to curate, distribute, and publicize highly-dimensional biomedical data sets coming from multiple NIA supported programs.
- Develop new processes for maintaining and growing datasets to meet the strategic needs of the research community.
- Support the development and documentation metadata standards for sharing datasets under the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability (FAIR) guiding principles.
- Streamline processes and implement new methods using scripting and statistical programming.
- Implement or extend data models/schemas in coordination with project lead.
- Manage access to sensitive datasets in collaboration with the Sage data governance team.
- Develop or extend existing data models/schemas for projects in coordination with Project Leads.
- Document data ingestion processes and curation SOPs. Write data release notes. Produce data reports.
- Have a master’s degree in a biological or computational field, OR a bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant work experience. Experience working with high-dimensional data is preferred.
- Have experience working with common biomedical data types derived from disease model systems and patients. Experience with gene expression and other omic data is preferred.
- Have an interest in learning about new high-throughput biological technologies.
- Are proficient in a scripting language such as Python or R.
- Have a basic understanding of SQL.
- Have a basic understanding of JSON.
- Are able to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Has clear technical writing and informative documentation
- Are able to work individually and within a team.
- Are passionate about open science and collaboration.
- Can work under deadlines.
