Associate Director, Biomedical Data Management

We are looking for an Associate Director, Biomedical Management on Sage’s Alzheimer’s disease (AD) translational research team. Our team serves as the data coordination center and bioinformatics core for several large, multidisciplinary Alzheimer’s disease and aging-related research projects funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Through this work, we facilitate new discoveries in the field of AD by fostering scientific collaborations and developing and sharing data, hypotheses, analysis results, and technologies. As an Associate Director, Biomedical Management, you will oversee a team of data curators and data managers who oversee data coordination and data sharing. The successful candidate will contribute to the collection, harmonization, and curation of clinical and omics data across multiple NIA-funded initiatives. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about the application of technology to enable open, collaborative, and reproducible biomedical research.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Providing scientific leadership to develop standards and protocols for storing, describing, and sharing heterogeneous data (including clinical, genomic, and imaging datasets) and tools
  • Leading a team of data managers and data curators to coordinate and manage resource and data sharing efforts for Alzheimer’s disease and aging-related research consortia
  • Facilitating data sharing across collaborating biomedical research labs by developing tools, writing documentation, curating data, and maintaining project web sites and/or data portals
  • Developing use cases and requirements to inform the selection of data models and workflows for a variety of biomedical data types
  • Interacting with collaborators to identify data management needs and respond to requests for data and programmatic support

Basic skills/qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Library Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or related field. Relevant professional experience can be substituted for educational requirements.
  • 5+ years experience establishing data models and ontologies.
  • 2+ years functioning as a manager or team lead and teaching data management skills to others
  • Proficiency in R or Python.
  • Experience working with life science data (e.g. genomics, imaging, medical data) repositories is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Linux shell scripting is preferred.
  • Experience with collaborative development and version control systems (e.g. git) is preferred

At Sage we engage equitable workplace strategies to ensure fair compensation. Actual compensation is dependent upon current market data, experience, and pay parity within our organization. This position is a Management level position, with a compensation range of $111,262 to $146,032.
