Senior QA Engineer

At Sage Bionetworks, we believe that we can learn more by learning from each other. We develop and apply open practices to data-driven research for the advancement of human health. We are working to establish actionable biomedical observations through the reliable analysis and responsible sharing of representative data. By improving the way scientists collaborate and by increasing the reliability of research, we will improve human health.

Are you the type of person who enjoys engaging with scientists and researchers across many disciplines? Do you have the ability to build and execute thorough test plans to ensure high-quality software? Do you want to be an integral part of a team that includes computational biologists, research ethicists, UI/UX designers, software engineers, and data librarians? If so, you could be our next Senior QA Engineer.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working in a hands-on, collaborative environment within a development team to deliver new features to support Digital Health platforms.
  • Testing and verifying key web and mobile product features for research study participants and their study coordinators.
  • Participating in product grooming sessions with product managers and engineers to understand product goals, features, details, etc.
  • Reviewing product specifications (including requirements, flowcharts, wireframes, designs, etc.) in order to prepare test plans and test scenarios.
  • Executing test plans, scenarios, and cases to ensure the customer experience matches defined product specs.
  • Turning user bug reports and issues into actionable, clear, and concise tickets with clear reproduction steps ready for engineers to work on.
  • Collecting other user feedback into feature requests for future development.
  • Playing a critical role in all releases by conducting regression and smoke tests in Staging and Production environments.
  • Verifying critical production issues as needed by connecting with stakeholders and monitoring mobile application store reviews, Crashlytics reports, and (preferred but not required) working with devops to set alert thresholds and monitor server health.
  • Being involved in the Scrum process, including stand-ups and related activities.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You have experience in mobile (iOS and Android), web, and (preferred but not required) public REST API user testing.
  • You prefer to work for a small company, one with a mission, and want to contribute.
  • You are passionate about open science and collaboration.
  • You have a proven track record of creating and executing test plan cycles, and providing feedback to the development teams.
  • Bonus points if you are proficient in creating and executing automated user and end-to-end test plans for web, iPhone, and Android apps (preferred but not required).

About Sage Bionetworks

Sage Bionetworks is a nonprofit biomedical research and technology development organization that was founded in Seattle in 2009. Our focus is to develop and apply open practices to data-driven research for the advancement of human health. Data-driven research has become an important component of biomedicine, but it’s not always easy to understand how to apply computational approaches appropriately or how to interpret their results. Sage believes open practices can help. Our interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers work together to provide researchers access to technology tools and scientific approaches to share data, benchmark methods, and explore collective insights, all backed by Sage’s gold-standard governance protocols and commitment to user-centered design. Sage is supported through a portfolio of competitive research grants, commercial partnerships, and philanthropic contributions.

Sage embraces diversity, equity and inclusion. We are committed to pay parity and making our salary ranges available to all employees. We invite you to apply and we welcome a conversation. We are based in Seattle, WA, and collaborate broadly throughout the world.

Sage provides a flexible work environment and will accommodate requests for geographically remote work with manager approval. Sage will also accommodate local employees who choose to work remotely from the Washington area with the option to come into the office on a flexible schedule.

All interviews will be conducted remotely at this time.

This is a Senior level position on our Technical and Engineering Professional career ladder, with a compensation range of $104,308-$166,892. Actual compensation is dependent upon experience.
