A Glance at Our Origins
Sage was founded in 2009 out of a sense of outrage and disbelief about the selfish, non-diverse, outdated practices that are sanctioned in biomedical research in the early 21st century – especially in academia. Coining now well-used phrases such as the “Medical Industrial Complex”, Sage shone a light on these strange practices and then developed solutions for a new way of doing science. We developed novel incentives with governance structures coupled to technology platforms fueled by a willingness to foster collective intelligence between colleagues and rivals.
