Join our dynamic Governance Innovation Team as an Associate Privacy/Data Protection Analyst and help shape the future of ethical, responsible research! In this role, you’ll support a variety of projects and use your skills in data management to build trust and transparency in everything we do.

We’re looking for someone passionate about ethical and responsible research who can help our users handle data responsibly. You’ll get to apply your knowledge in privacy, security, or data management to ensure our work meets the highest standards.
As an Associate Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will manage compliance with data privacy policies and procedures, maintain documentation to support good data governance, and provide governance support to our research communities, under close supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Protection: Help apply and manage privacy controls by following governance policies and procedures. Conduct quality checks that these controls are working well to protect data and other research assets. Support investigations into potential privacy issues or cases where terms of use were not followed.
  • Documentation: Stay up-to-date with important rules and regulations (such as HIPAA, GDPR, and the Genomic Data Sharing Policy) and understand or investigate how new technologies impact data privacy. Share key information with your team and the organization about these rules and any potential issues in our projects. Contribute to and update documents that ensure we follow privacy and data protection guidelines.
  • Process Improvement: Work across teams to promote safe and open data sharing. Help researchers who need to set privacy controls on their data or have trouble accessing protected data. Take a data-driven approach to identify common challenges in data reuse and suggest ways to make the process easier while ensuring data is handled responsibly.

We’d Love to Hear from You If You:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as biomedical sciences, or relevant field
  • Have up to 3 years of professional experience in data privacy, data governance, or a related area
  • Possess strong data literacy skills with some experience working with databases &/or data products
  • Understand FAIR data and ethical research principles
  • Certification in privacy is a plus, not required

  • Travel is required a minimum of two times per year for on-site events in Seattle, WA.

  • Follows company policies, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations.

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage Associate level, with a salary range of $57,800 to $74,850. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.

We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
