In this role, you will lead the design efforts for a range of new projects while also enhancing existing ones. You will tackle complex challenges and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly designs for a diverse audience on the Synapse platform and its associated applications—catering to both first-time users and experienced professionals. To achieve this, you'll collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, including internal teams at Sage and international users.

As a Senior Product Designer, you will utilize your high proficiency to conduct complex design work with minimal supervision. You will lead efforts in developing, prototyping, and testing user interfaces, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to drive the overall platform vision and enhance user experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Prototype: Lead the development, prototyping, and testing of information architectures for web-based and mobile products.
- User Experience: Create and refine intuitive user experiences using advanced design principles.
- Collaboration: Work closely with usability developers, back-end developers, marketing, and product teams to align product design with business objectives.
- Wireframes and Specifications: Translate concepts into detailed wireframes, user flow diagrams, and design specifications.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present design solutions and user needs to key stakeholders.
- User Feedback: Gather and analyze user feedback to continuously enhance the end-user experience.
- Product Development: Collaborate with Product Management to refine user stories and product requirements, ensuring alignment with the overall platform vision.
- Design Fidelity: Create high-fidelity prototypes and detailed designs for product development and stakeholder discussions.
- Engineering Guidance: Provide expert guidance during development and testing, leading usability and acceptance testing with external users.
We’d Love to Hear from You If You:
- Are passionate about open science and collaboration, enjoy working with data, and supporting scientific research.
- Have a degree in interaction design, graphic design, HCI, or an equivalent technical field.
- Have 5+ years of professional design experience.
- Possess a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design, including UX research, interaction design, and user interfaces.
- Have extensive experience in designing complex systems or platforms using modular design principles.
- Have deep knowledge of Agile development practices.
- Have a proven ability to collaborate effectively in a remote work environment.
- Have experience in designing applications that handle large volumes of information.
- Have advanced knowledge of data visualization principles and best practices.
- Have a strong understanding of relational and nonSQL databases, schemas, command line interfaces, APIs, search technologies, cloud computing, and remote storage technologies.

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage Senior level, with a salary range of $107,500 to $144,570. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.
We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
