In this role you will be a member of the Alzheimer’s Disease Translational Research Team working on the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Coordination Center. You will apply your skill as a Senior Technical Program Manager by engaging in project and product management to enable Sage’s mission toward Open Science and Radical Collaboration. Do you have the ability to manage technical projects and ensure diverse teams make effective progress? As Senior Technical Program Manager, you would bring your expertise in technical program/product management and a passion for open science and collaboration. You will oversee the continued development of several existing data and results sharing applications for Alzheimer’s disease, including the AD Knowledge Portal and the Exceptional Longevity Portal. You will also facilitate efforts to enhance interoperability with other data repositories and data commons platforms.


As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will utilize your high proficiency to manage complex and important projects with minimal supervision. You will lead efforts in project planning, collaboration, and communication, ensuring the successful delivery of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Develop and implement detailed project plans and requirements. Create and maintain project SOPs.
  • Collaboration: Work with project leads, managers, and organizers to set and achieve project objectives. Track progress to milestones and deliverables, managing changes and resolving issues.
  • Coordination: Define business requirements, schedule meetings, set agendas, take minutes, and assign action items.
  • Communication: Develop and execute a strategic communications plan. Manage communications among stakeholders.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with agreements, data privacy, and security regulations. Inform leadership of issues impacting project completion.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist senior project and program managers in guiding strategic planning.
  • Logistics: Plan and organize workshops, tutorials, and educational outreach activities.
  • Scrum Management: Coordinate and monitor the scrum process, focusing on timely value delivery. Engage with product owners and development teams.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain and report project status. Manage the team backlog and product release plan.
  • User Feedback: Gather end-user data to evaluate if technical specifications meet project goals.
  • Roadmap Maintenance: Update the product roadmap and coordinate priorities with the product owner and engineers.
  • Process Improvement: Bring best practices to the team and improve existing processes for efficiency.
  • Documentation: Support technical writing and documentation efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with biologists, designers, and software engineers to develop FAIR data repositories to support collaborative research in neurodegeneration and aging.
  • Oversee projects aimed at enhancing interoperability across NIH-supported data repositories.
  • Write user stories and functional specifications describing requirements for new product features.
  • Act as Product Owner for Alzheimer’s Disease data portals and related data integrations.

We’d Love to Hear from You If You:

  • Have a BS in a technical discipline such as computer science or biomedical science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have 5+ years of experience managing collaborative scientific or software projects.
  • Are highly proficient in software project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, GitHub).
  • Have extensive experience with Agile software development practices.
  • Have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Are adaptable, have professional integrity, and a strong client service orientation.
  • Can write clear, concise technical documentation.
  • Are familiar with modern software engineering challenges and solutions in data science, bioinformatics, and/or biomedical data coordination.
  • Have the ability to balance priorities and anticipate blockers.
  • Have experience working in a highly matrixed work environment.

Project/Team specific skills preferred:

  • Background in biology, bioinformatics, neuroscience, or other life sciences discipline.
  • Understanding of data management and FAIR data dissemination principles.
  • Experience with data processing and visualization of complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing infrastructure.

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage senior level, with a salary range of $93,300 to $135,900. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.

We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
