Are you the type of person who enjoys engaging with researchers, product designers, data and software engineers? Do you have the ability to manage technical projects and ensure diverse teams make effective progress? If so, you could be our next technical program manager for neurodegenerative and aging research. You will bring your expertise in technical program/product management and a passion for open science and collaboration. You will oversee the continued development of several existing data and results sharing applications for Alzheimer’s disease, including the AD Knowledge Portal and the Exceptional Longevity Portal. You will also facilitate efforts to enhance interoperability with other data repositories and data commons platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Develop and implement project plans and requirements. Create and maintain project SOPs, ensuring their proper use.
  • Collaboration: Work with project leads, managers, and challenge organizers to set and achieve objectives. Track progress to milestones and deliverables, managing changes and resolving issues to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordination: Support project workstreams by defining business requirements, scheduling meetings, setting agendas, taking minutes, and assigning action items.
  • Communication: Develop and execute a strategic communications plan. Manage communications among internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with agreements, data privacy, and security regulations. Inform leadership of issues impacting project completion, budget, or results.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist senior project and program managers in guiding strategic planning.
  • Logistics: Help plan and organize workshops, tutorials, and educational outreach activities.
  • Scrum Management: Coordinate and monitor the scrum process, focusing on timely delivery of value. Engage with product owners, development teams, and stakeholders to meet requirements and deliverables.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain and report project status, keeping leadership informed of key issues. Manage the team backlog and product release plan.
  • User Feedback: Gather data from end-users to evaluate if technical specifications meet project goals.
  • Roadmap Maintenance: Update the product roadmap and coordinate priorities with the product owner and engineers.
  • Process Improvement: Bring best practices to the team and improve existing processes for efficiency.
  • Documentation: Support technical writing and documentation efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with biologists, designers, and software engineers to develop FAIR data repositories to support collaborative research in neurodegeneration and aging.
  • Oversee projects aimed at enhancing interoperability across NIH supported data repositories.
  • Write user stories or functional specifications describing requirements for new product features.
  • Oversee product roadmaps and recommend prioritization of tasks for teams of scientists, engineers, and designers.
  • Writing technical documentation for a scientific audience, co-authoring scientific papers for peer reviewed journals, and presenting work at scientific conferences..

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Are passionate about open science and collaboration.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience working as a technical program, product, or project manager, or equivalent.
  • Have an understanding of modern web application architecture, programming tools, and programming languages.
  • Have past experience using project management tools to support activities such as issue tracking, development processes, and documentation (examples may include Jira, GitHub, Confluence, or other systems).
  • Have experience overseeing product roadmaps and prioritizing tasks for teams of scientists, engineers, and designers.
  • Have experience making product development decisions based on user and stakeholder feedback.
  • Have effective and efficient communication skills for diverse audiences, including subject matter experts and leadership.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to write clear, detailed technical content.
  • Write functional specifications describing requirements for new product features.

Project/Team specific skills preferred:

  • Background in biology, bioinformatics, neuroscience, or other life sciences discipline is preferred.
  • Understanding of data management and FAIR data dissemination is preferred.
  • Past experience with data processing and visualization of complex datasets is preferred.
  • Experience with Agile software development practices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing infrastructure is preferred.

  • Travel is required a minimum of two times per year for on-site events in Seattle, WA.

At Sage Bionetworks, we engage equitable workplace strategies to ensure fair compensation. Actual compensation is dependent upon current market data, experience, and pay parity within our organization. This position is a Senior level position, with a compensation range of $93,300 to $135,900.

We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
